Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported that she asked, “O Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu a’laihi wa sallam), If I realize Lailatul Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?”
.
The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu a’laihi wa sallam) replied, “You should supplicate (this) – “

The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu a’laihi wa sallam) replied, “You should supplicate (this) – “
Meaning : O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, You love forgiveness; so forgive me.
(Jami’ at-Tirmidhi, Sunan Nasa’i, Sunan Ibn Majah, Mustadrak Hakim; Imam Tirmidhi said that it is Hasan Sahih)
Here’s an important thing to be noted, both the words “Afuw” and “Maghfirah” means forgiveness, but why in this dua “Afuw” have been used instead of “Maghfirah” ?
“Maghfirah” means to forgive the sins but it will still be documented and presented to you on the day of judgement.
“Afuw” means to wipe away the sins without a trace and to have leftovers/to prosper, meaning the sins will not be mentioned on the day of judgement, as if you never committed them. Subhan-Allah.
